i make art

I like art. I'm probably gonna end up going to school for art, just like every other asian in this world (I'm serious, it's either art school or engineering school). I started drawing freshman year, you know, taking classes and actually taking an interest in art, and I haven't stopped since (though I did have a dark period... I stopped arting for about half a year, but thank god for the Cooper Union...).

Anyways, I normally do your standard portraits and realistic scenes. You know, like every other high schooler in the world. But, recently, I've started regressing and going back to simplicity. You know, just doing line drawings with ink and focusing on the basics and on materials. It's about ideas, not really about making it look like something. Pretty art isn't necessary.

I'll be posting more art that I've done throughout the course of this blog. I'll also be commenting on galleries and showings and museums I visit (I'm going to the Met this Thursday so you better look foward to that!)

And don't worry, it's not all I'll be talking about. I'll post some fun whimsical things as well.

I make food

Over the summer, I became obsessed with the Food Network. Ina Garten and Giada DeLaurentis are my homegirls (but not Sandra Lee because her cocktails always look disgusting). Now all I ever do is cook/bake things. My friends have become accustomed to sitting on the little foot stool in my tiny kitchen and talking to me while I bake something or other. Tonight I'm making Pappa Al Pomodoro, which is this really cool Italian tomato soup that's thickened with cubes of Ciabatta bread. The recipe is from Ina's cookbook and it looks pretty sweet. 

Anyway, the picture attached to this post is of the blueberry crumb cake I made a little while ago. Hope it looks tasty. I'll post a picture of the soup when it's all done. 

i knit things

i taught myself how to knit in elementary school with pencils, and now i know how to do it a little better.
i make tiny stuffed animals, and hats, and scarves sometimes.

i really enjoy it and now that springs almost here, i think i'm going to have to stop making hats and start making stuffed animals.
so, if anyone really wants one, they look like this.

right now i am sold out of anything but moose.
but i can make anything.
so if you want an animal or something else home- knitted, i can do that.

these moose look really sad, and to be honest its probably because they dont have a home.

I make songs.

Most of the time they're really bad, but I'm working on fixing that.

I started making CDs in middle school when I noticed that there was a microphone attached to my computer and recorded 14 really bad songs of me yelling made up songs to keyboard beats over the course of two weeks, then made a few copies and gave them to my friends. They thought it was funny so I kept doing it, and kind of by accident I started making songs that sounded kinda decent, so for now I've decided to drop the goofy stuff and see if I can make a whole album of songs that are decent by themselves without needing to be goofy. Hopefully it'll be finished sometime this year. I know what I'm going to call it but I feel like it would be bad luck to give that away so soon. The name I'll be putting it out as though is SQUANTO. That's my new name, now that FMJB is dead and everything. He died in a plane crash on the last track of his last album.

One of the new songs I've made for it is on the first link that I posted, it's the first one and it's labeled "new song," although that's obviously not what it will actually be called. If you want any of my CDs let me know, I'm happy to give out mp3s of all of them although they're really not good and I don't know why anyone would want most of them.

introductions

This is a blog for us, as well as for you.

We're just your average teens, waiting for college and yearning to break away from the constraints of Long Island suburbia. And that is why we've decided to create this silly little thing. It's something for us to pass the time and to just to talk and write about the stuff that we like: food, art, literature, music, clothes, whatever.

Hey, and maybe at the same time, we'll get to make some friends and get to have some fun conversations...
